Why has yahoo abandoned us?

I've been using yahoo for many years: yahoo search, yahoo toolbar, yahoo mail, yahoo maps, yahoo tv guide, etc.

I've always been satisfied till now. They messed up the tool-bar. Yahoo search is less efficient than ever. Yahoo mail is full of glitches. their TV guide has gone from the best to a pile of doo-doo. Now their maps have gone from excellent to something I'd rather not have to scrape off of my shoe.

Has Yahoo lost their collective mind?

Why has yahoo abandoned us?
Right on! I can't stand the fact that they probably actually (hard to believe) paid someone to do that stupid new TV site. They probably paid so much that an executive would be too embarassed to go back. You're right about the maps, too. In both cases, it was a big step backwards. I can't comment so much on the other issues.

I've always liked Yahoo for a web search because I usually take the opportunity to do a quick check of the weather, tv, news, and e-mail. The ads are part of the business and I respect that.

Now, a quick check of the tv is no longer possible. I don't have the time it takes to wait for it to load while a stare at a bunch of useless pictures.

Yahoo weather has never been that good and is getting worse.

Yahoo is not the best search engine but they have had the best features. If they let the features go downhill, they will lose the bigger game.
Reply:Oh wow. You are dissatisfied. I heard there are some problems lately with hackers. No not that same email that has been circulating from the "President of Yahoo".

Try Google.
Reply:It's not so much being abandoned as everything else has out-paced them.

They are trying to buy their way betting by acquiring companies that have good products, but without much luck ...

I didn't like the Toolbar at all. Google has been much better at search for the last couple of years and mail for at least the last year.

I don't use maps a lot - but they apparently think everyone drives at 30MPH on the highway - judging by the travel times they give...

All I use occasionally is Instant messenger, but even it is lame, compared to the open-source program gaim (which is much better and connects with every IM client that exists). Yahoo!'s IM gets worse with each release, which just seem to add more ads and junk features to it.
Reply:i don't know but i agree i had to uninstall my messenger and change to MSN because i could not stay connected. I was upset i really liked the yahoo one. i don't know, but i don't like it either!!!
Reply:Yahoo, in it's desperate scramble to out do Google is making lots of big mistakes. And I soooooooo agree with you about yahoo TV, it's just another place for shows to place ads now.
Reply:I've also been using Yahoo for many years now, mostly email and IM. Just recently I was forced (or should I say tricked? honestly, I'm not sure what to call it) to upgrade to a new version of Yahoo IM, the one with the running ads :-(

I used to really like Yahoo Messenger but that's it - no more Yahoo IM for me. Yahoo as a company has been on a slippery slope for quite some time now with all sorts of foolish decisions and I'm quite sure that these changes to IM are going to make it even worse for them. I acknowledge that it's Yahoo's right to put these ads in but it just doesn't matter. I'm willing to bet my head that there's now going to be a massive migration of people to other IM clients. Great job Yahoo!
